The condo balcony refurbishment project aimed to address the issue of deteriorating exterior tiles by replacing them with a more durable and visually appealing solution. Skyscapes, in collaboration with two balcony restoration companies, successfully executed the project, resulting in fully restored outdoor spaces for all the units in the building.
One notable aspect of the project was the careful planning and execution of the removal of old tiles and the subsequent repair of balcony surfaces with waterproofing. This ensured a solid foundation for the installation of the new tiles, preventing future warping, breaking, and deterioration.
The expertise of the restoration companies in this process played a vital role in ensuring the longevity of the refurbishment.
The selection of a WSP Engineering-designed 2CM porcelain paver system by Skyscapes showcased their commitment to quality and durability. Porcelain pavers are known for their strength and resistance to wear and tear, making them an ideal choice for outdoor spaces. This transformation not only improved the visual aesthetics of the balconies but also provided residents with long-lasting and low-maintenance surfaces to enjoy.

Aquabella → Tridel
After producing a rendering that Tridel had provided to customers, Skyscapes was engaged to produce a product that would match these designs while meeting high quality standards of construction materials that the company is known for. Using international manufacturing connections to meet budget requirements, Skyscapes sourced a perfect colour match of 1 x 2 ft 2 CM porcelain pavers to the design renderings. This was completed from 2029 through to 2021, while facing pandemic repercussions such as lockdowns, freight increases, extreme delays in shipping and supply chain challenges. Despite these barriers of unprecedented times, Skyscapes was able to meet the project deadlines and adhere to original price points provided.

Sourcing all of the elements to construct and implement a wind uplift system for a custom pergola project, Skyscapes supplied a complete solution. This included the composite pergolas, 2 x 6ft IPE pavers, a 350 ton crane and 16000 lbs of free floating steel plates to support the wind uplift system. Skyscapes also coordinated the Police Officers on site to facilitate a 3-lane shutdown for a Friday on Yonge Street to accommodate the crane.
Our team delivered all of the materials using the crane, extending 280 to 315 feet up and over the building, while completing this phase of the project within the city-alloted time for containing traffic with the lane closures. In total, 22 staff worked to complete the task safely and timely in a well organised manner. This penthouse was a unique space, close in proximity to the downtown core, but overlooking a quiet green space behind the building, providing incredible views for this transformation. Being one of the most sought after buildings to reside in Toronto, this condo unit was listed as one of the Toronto Star’s Home of the Week, featuring the outdoor space once it was listed for sale a few years after the team finished the project.

The Skyscapes Team was brought onto the project to finish the Condo Common areas and ended up completing a number of the larger terraces and balconies in the building. The Royal condo building has units with large rooms, tall ceilings, massive kitchens, and overall that really feel more like a home than some of the box-style condos that are on the market. The builders left no options undone, and for most of the units, this continued to the terraces and balconies. Some Very cool designs and unique spaces make this project a personal favourite for the Skyscapes Team.
Tiff Lighthouse - Festival Towers - 80 John Street
The condo’s common area had 1600 square feet of concrete pavers that needed to be covered with a low profile decking that would stand the test of time, and heavy foot traffic.
We installed 2 by 2ft Ipe Pavers on fixed height pedestals to ensure the railing height bylaw code was maintained and the building requested an exotic wood “Ipe” Paver to compliment the BBQ’s, fireplaces and outdoor kitchens that were also installed to maximize the use of the space.
Valleymede Condos→ 398 Highway 7 Markham Ontario
The developer was looking for an innovative way to decorate 2 large PH units with a total square footage of 1300 square feet of the reverse insulated membrane. They required a product that would be heavy enough to weigh down the styrofoam insulation that was protecting the membrane underneath and a product that would be a low profile to stay within the 42-inch minimum railing height.
We installed 2 by 2ft 2cm Porcelain Pavers on top of the styrofoam that covered the roof membrane while still allowing for ample drainage and for the 2cm porcelain tiles to be removed to clean drains, inspect and/or repair the roof membrane. This is the same roofing system used by 326 Major Mackenzie. The Porcelain Pavers are 9 lbs per square foot and are heavy enough to keep the styrofoam in place even when water is slowly draining from the membrane. There has been a space left for black river rocks around the perimeter of the porcelain deck.
South Park Townhomes→ 325 South Park Rd, Thornhill, ON
The developer was looking for a new way to decorate 22 large townhome rooftops each measuring about 550 sq/ft. The total square footage of the project was 11,000 square feet of the reverse insulated membrane. They required a product that would be heavy enough to weigh down the styrofoam insulation that was protecting the membrane underneath and a product that would be low profile to stay within the 42-inch minimum railing height.
Similar to the last project we installed the durable 2 by 2ft 2cm Porcelain Pavers over top of the styrofoam that covered the roof membrane while still allowing for ample drainage and for the 2cm porcelain tiles to be removed to clean drains, inspect and/or repair the roof membrane. There were concerns about being able to access the roof membrane as there had already been issues with leaks and the builder wanted a modular decking they could remove as needed.
As noted above, this is the same roofing system used by 326 Major Mackenzie. The porcelain pavers are 9 lbs per square foot and are heavy enough to keep the styrofoam in place even when water is slowly draining from the membrane. There has been a space left for black river rocks around the perimeter of the porcelain deck.

The condo board was looking for a modular decking solution for their Penthouse balconies. The Goal was to use a removable decking product to allow continuous access to the surface below, as there were 2 by 2ft concrete pavers on top of a rubber membrane roof. The board was looking for a durable option that required no yearly maintenance, extremely durable and wind tested to stand up to the test of time.
The Board opted to install our 1 by 2ft Dura Composite WIND TESTED Deck tile. These are NOT the box store tiles, these tiles stand up to the test of time, and are backed by a 15-year warranty. There are 4 colour options to choose from, and countless patterns, these tiles are the perfect low profile modular decking product for condo balconies!

The condo owner purchases condos presale and completely renovates the units for resale. He was looking to maximize the 1600 sq/ft wrap-around terrace as it goes completely around the condo unit and can be seen from most rooms so it was required to match the interior flooring colour as well as create a stunning outdoor space. They needed a product that would be low profile to stay within the 42-inch minimum railing height but also completely removable to abide by condo bylaws.
