Curupay (Patagonian Rosewood)

Curupay

Curupay (Anadenanthera macrocarpa) is a very strong, dense, exotic hardwood that is also known as Patagonian Rosewood, Angico and Tiger Mahogany. The Curupay tree grows in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Peru. Curupay has a very distinct appearance. When full aged, the wood has a striped look, with the light stripes ranging from a soft orange to an elegant dark orange, contrasting beautifully with the dark stripping that is almost black. In addition to being a beautiful wood for flooring, it is also one of the most durable. Curupay has a Janka hardness rating of 3840. Compare this to Brazilian Cherry, which scores a 2350, and Red Oak flooring which has a hardness rating of 1290. Curupay is an extremely dense material that is an affordable and beautiful option for your outdoor patio and balcony flooring projects as it has a high resistance to decay and water impregnation.
